Genes & Neural Circuits for Motivated Behavior. Alcohol-induced Neuroplasticity. We aim to find some of the molecular and neural circuit mechanisms that govern adult behavior in the fruit fly Drosophila. Current research focuses on the actions of the widely abused drug alcohol, and the motivational properties of internal state imbalances, including thirst. Our long term goal is to understand how motivational states are represented in the brain.
